'Iconic' Ground Zero Flag Honored at 9/11 Memorial in New York City

An American flag recovered from Ground Zero after September 11, 2001, was carried by first responders during a 9/11 tribute in Lower Manhattan on Saturday, the 20th anniversary of the attacks.

Florida Representative Mike Waltz posted video to Twitter showing the flag, still ripped and dirtied from the collapse, being carried past past saluting members of the US Army Special Forces (Green Berets) and other units and departments.

The “iconic” flag – the cornerstone of a famous photo taken by former Bergen Record photographer Thomas E Franklin on September 11, 2001 – was donated to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in 2016, on the 15th anniversary of the attacks. Credit: Rep Mike Waltz via Storyful
