Equine therapy offers hope for Caracas' disabled kids

STORY: This equine therapy center offers hope to disabled kids

Locator: Caracas, Venezuela

It’s been a lifeline for six-year-old Drake who has cerebral palsy

(Claireth Mendoza / Drake Mendoza’s mother): ”Drake couldn't hold his head up at all. I put him on the couch, and he didn't move. Neither did he move his hands a lot. He didn't move them the way he does now, for example, when he speaks. It's been slow, but the progress has been quite noticeable."

Drake is one of 103 patients who have received treatment

at Caracas' Integral Therapy Center Foundation of Venezuela (CTIV)

CTIV also subsidizes the cost for some low-income families

(Patricia Cifuentes Cifuentes de Chumaceiro / CTIV’s founder): “We wanted to assist, provide a service and rehabilitation, especially to children with limited resources. Children whose parents couldn't afford a better quality of life for them and couldn't afford a therapy."
