Jubilant family cheer Michelle Yeoh Oscar win

STORY: “She's a very hardworking girl, you know. Everybody knows it," Yeoh’s mother, Janet Yeoh, told reporters at an Oscars viewing party in Kuala Lumpur, adding that she had no doubts her daughter would win the award.

Yeoh won the Academy Award on Sunday (March 12) in Los Angeles for her role as a Chinese American laundromat owner dealing with family turmoil across multiple dimensions in "Everything Everywhere All At Once."

Yeoh, 60, was widely regarded as the front-runner for the award after claiming a Screen Actors Guild honour and a Golden Globe award for the role. This was her first Oscar nomination.
