Yahoo TV Potentially Record-Breaking Gold Nugget Auctioned After Find By Equipment-Hampered Prospector
A potentially record-breaking gold nugget has been put up for auction after being discovered in Shropshire, England, by a prospector hampered by malfunctioning equipment.
The 64.8 gram nugget, which has been named “Hiro’s Nugget,” is estimated to be worth as much as £40,000 ($50,300).
Mullock Jones Auctions, who are selling the gold nugget in a timed auction that will run until April 1, said it “could be the largest found within England, UK.”
The gold nugget was discovered last May by 67-year-old Richard Brock, after he travelled more than three hours from his home in Somerset to join an organised expedition in the Shropshire Hills, according to local reports.
He eventually discovered the nugget despite having to use an older metal detector after experiencing problems with the detecting kit he brought, local media reported. Credit: Mullock Jones Auctions via Storyful
