European powers blame Iran for Saudi oil attacks

Ever since Saudi oil facilities came under attack earlier this month, the U.S. has had its finger pointed squarely at Iran.

And now, Washington's got some backup.

On Monday (September 23) Britain, Germany and France said they also think Tehran was responsible.

Iran's been a major talking point at the week's UN General Assembly.

On the sidelines - the three countries laid out their accusations.

"There is no other plausible explanation [for the attack]," they said. "We support ongoing investigations to establish further details."

They also urged Tehran to go back to the negotiating table for talks on the country's nuclear and weapons programs.

Iran responded with a tweet from Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

He ruled out any new discussions and blamed the three countries for failing to hold up their end of the 2015 deal.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said Washington was ready to take action.

"We have a lot of pressure on them right now, more pressure than they've ever had. And Iran knows they are in a position that a lot of things are going to happen, a lot more than the media knows. A lot of things are happening."

Trump pulled out of the nuclear deal last year and has ramped up sanctions on Tehran

He's flirted with the idea of meeting Iran's president Hassan Rouhani while both are in New York for the U.N. General Assembly.

But so far, the chances appear slim.
