A Russian court on Monday, April 1, extended the pre-trial detention of a Russian-American journalist working for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) for a further two months until June 5.

Footage by independent Russian outlet SOTAvision shows Alsu Kurmasheva in the defendant’s box at a courthouse in Kazan.

According to US-funded RFE/RL, she is facing up to 10 years in prison charged with failing to register as a foreign agent and spreading false information about Russia’s armed forces.

Kurmasheva was arrested while visiting Russia last year to see her elderly mother, and was initially detained while waiting for her return flight to Prague, the outlet said.
