State of Emergency Declared as California's Mountain View Fire Grows to Over 20,000 Acres

A state of emergency was declared in east-central California’s Mono County on November 18, after the Mountain View wildfire grew to 20,879 acres.

The announcement said the fire had “forced the evacuation of hundreds of residents, destroyed over 80 structures, and resulted in at least one fatality.”

In their latest update from November 18, the Mono County Sheriff’s Office said that damage assessments were underway, warning that it could be days before residents can return to their homes.

Video posted by the sheriff’s office shows the wildfire burning on a hillside in Walker on the evening of November 17.
