During a Senate session on December 5, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) condemned Donald Trump for calling for the “termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution” and engaging with antisemites.

“Donald Trump cannot seem to go a week without doing or saying something disgusting, dishonorable, and frankly disqualifying for high office,” Schumer said.

“On Friday, he took his vile rhetoric to a new and horrible nadir when he called for the ‘termination of the Constitution of the United States’ because he lost the 2020 election.”

On December 3 Trump wrote on Truth Social that “a Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution” in a post about the 2020 election.

Andrew Bates, the White House deputy press secretary, responded to Trump’s remarks in a statement. “Attacking the Constitution and all it stands for is anathema to the soul of our nation and should be universally condemned. You cannot only love America when you win,” Bates wrote.

In a follow-up post on December 5, Trump denied that he said he wanted to terminate the US Constitution and called the statements made in reaction “disinformation and lies.” Credit: CSPAN via Storyful
