Plane Drops Fire Retardant on California's 'Very Active' Glass Fire

Firefighters dropped flame retardant on the Glass Fire as it continued to rage in parts of California on October 3. In a 10 pm update, authorities said dry conditions meant they were seeing “very active fire behavior” despite containment efforts.

An aircraft can be seen dropping fire retardant on the smokey landscape at Robert Louis Stevenson State Park in photographer Craig Philpott’s video.

The fire, at the time of writing, was 15% contained and had scorched 63,450 acres in the counties Napa and Sonoma, according to Cal Fire.

Issuing a red flag warning, the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area, warned of “very hot, dry conditions” for the North Bay mountains coupled with “gusty” winds. Credit: Craig Philpott via Storyful
