Police in New Jersey safely pulled two people from a vehicle submerged in a retention pond in Pequannock Township on April 2, dramatic bodycam video shows.

According to the Pequannock Township Police, the driver of the vehicle had gone into a retention pond at Cedar Crest Senior Living Community. Officers, with the help of Cedar Crest Security, the Pequannock First Aid and Rescue Squad (FAS) and the Pequannock Fire Department, managed to safely remove a passenger and the driver “as the murky water was filling the vehicle.”

Footage shared by the police department shows the scene unfolding on April 2, including video from the officer’s body-worn camera, which was “surprisingly” in “good shape after being submerged in the water,” the department said, “but the same can’t be said” for the officer’s boots.

At the end of the video, one of the rescued motorists asks anxiously about her purse, and an official answers, “I got your purse.” Credit: Pequannock Township Police via Storyful
