Texas news crew rescues trapped dog after tornado

STORY: The crew was setting up equipment in the pre-dawn darkness in heavily-damaged Laguna Heights, east of Brownsville when their security detail heard the dog's cries coming from under the house. ABC News sound technician Jim Gower found a shovel nearby and began to dig at the foundation of the home.

The dog was soon able to poke its head out from under the house, but seemed unable or too scared to fully emerge. After further digging, someone offered Gower a Slim Jim beef snack, which he used to coax the dog out of danger.

The twister - with winds estimated at up to 110 mph - killed one person, identified as Robert Flores, on Saturday as it destroyed numerous homes and splintered wooden power poles. At least 11 people were hospitalized with injuries after the storm.
