A 9-year-old was the Transylvania University baseball team’s newest recruit after signing a letter of intent on Wednesday, February 7, in Lexington, Kentucky.

Megan Moloney, the Vice President of Marketing and Communications at Transylvania University, told Storyful 9-year-old Chapman Hilliard was matched with the team through a program called Team IMPACT. According to the nonprofit’s website, they are a national organization that “matches children facing serious illness and disability with college sports teams, creating a long-term, life-changing experience for everyone involved.”

Moloney said Chapman’s involvement will include interacting with the players and attending some practices and games.

In an interview, Chapman’s dad, who can be seen wearing a hat and red vest, said he thinks the impact of being part of a team, and what both Chapman and the players will learn from one another, is going to be “special.”

The video shows Chapman running down a line of people cheering him on. He can then be seen sitting at a table between his dad and the head coach, and signs a paper to officially become a Transylvania Pioneer. Credit: Transylvania Baseball via Storyful
