Firefighters on the Canary Island of La Palma responded to further activity from the Cumbre Vieja volcano on September 22.

Aerial footage released by the Guardia Civil shows lava from the Cumbre Vieja encroaching on the Todoque area of the island.

The previous night, Gran Canaria Firefighters worked to divert the lava by flattening some ground in the town of Todoque and moving obstacles.

Around 200 buildings in the path of the lava have been destroyed, following the initial eruption of the island’s Cumbre Vieja volcano on September 19, Telecinco said.

Around 6,000 people have been evacuated as the lava moves 300 meters per hour towards the sea, the news site said. Credit: Guardia Civil via Storyful
