The first giant pandas born at Zoo Tierpark Berlin ‏have begun to grow their first coats of black and white fur, zoo officials said.

The cubs were born at the end of August to mom Meng Meng and dad Jiao Qing, who are both on loan to the zoo from China, according to reports.

Footage of the cubs released by the zoo shows Meng Meng cuddling with her cubs.

According to zoo officials, giant pandas generally only have enough energy to raise one cub.

Staff have been ensuring the cubs spend alternating shifts of two to three hours at a time with their mother in order to give both cubs the best chance of survival. Credit: Zoo Berlin ‏ via Storyful
