Air traffic over Florida dropped significantly on Wednesday, September 28, in comparison to the same day and time the previous week, as Hurricane Ian, a Category 4 storm, headed for the state, according to Flightradar24.

Many airports in Florida, including Miami International Airport, Tampa International Airport and Orlando International Airport, canceled flights.

The hurricane caused “catastrophic storm surge, winds, and flooding,” according to the National Hurricane Center.

The National Weather Service (NWS) told people to shelter in place, warning that the storm surge was “life-threatening.”
