Raiders Fans Burn Antonio Brown Shirt After His Patriots Move

Oakland Raiders fans gathered ahead of their team’s game against the Broncos on September 9 made their feelings clear about Antonio Brown, who was released by the Raiders after a fractious preseason, and quickly signed up by the New England Patriots.

Derisive chants against Brown were heard at the pregame tailgate and also inside the Coliseum. Dan Bernstein of the Sporting News spotted one fan with a Brown shirt modified so it read “Clown” over his old No 84. He also recorded a burning shirt, with fans spitting on it.

Brown was released by the Raiders on Saturday after a preseason that included a suspension and fine after he clashed with general manager Mike Mayock. He’d only joined the Silver and Black in March, via a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Brown was almost immediately picked up by the New England Patriots, igniting suspicion among sports media outlets that the drama with Oakland was manufactured by Brown to expedite his release.

On the field, the Raiders ran out 24-16 winners against the Broncos, in a performance that included a touchdown by the team’s new No 1 wide receiver, Tyrell Williams, who had six catches for 105 yards. Credit: Dan Bernstein via Storyful
