A powerful tornado barreled through Rocky Mount, North Carolina, on Wednesday, July 19, causing serious damage to a Pfizer pharmaceutical facility in the area.

These aerial images by the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office show the damage to the facility on Wednesday afternoon.

Pfizer said their facility had been damaged, but their employees were “safe and accounted for.”

The Rocky Mount facility produces almost a quarter of sterile injectables used by hospitals in the US, according to Pfizer. “We are assessing the situation to determine the impact on production,” the company wrote on Facebook.

The National Weather Service (NWS) said the tornado that hit Rocky Mount was an EF-3, with wind gusts of up to 150 miles per hour, adding that it was “the first EF-3 tornado ever observed in central North Carolina in the month of July.”
