Bug Enthusiast Nurses Giant Grasshopper Back to Health

A Queensland woman with a passion for insects has shared footage to Instagram of a giant valanga, often called a giant grasshopper, that she’s nursing back to health.

In a description alongside the footage, Lisa Van Kula Donovan explained that she rescued the grasshopper from her adoptive mother’s garden.

She wrote, "She had both underwings and one outer wing – barely hanging on – when I found her. One underwing and the remaining outer wing dropped off almost immediately.

“I have her home now and will care for her until it’s her time as she would be easy bird food at this point,” she added. A female giant valanga can measure 60 to 75 mm, according to Australia’s Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment.

Van Kula Donovan, a resident of Torbanlea, Queensland, regularly shares interesting moments with her collection of arachnid and insect pets to social media.
