Rain Lashes Newfoundland as Hurricane Larry Makes Landfall

Hurricane Larry downed trees and caused power outages in the Canadian province of Newfoundland overnight into September 11, Canadian media reported.

Footage from Michele Boriel shows rain and wind lashing her street in Mount Pearl, a suburb of St John’s, late Friday night as she took her dog for a walk.

Larry made landfall on Newfoundland’s western Avalon Peninsula around 1.30 am Saturday, Environment Canada said. Preliminary reports found Mount Pearl received 35.1 mL (approximately 2.1 in) of rain.
