Outstanding in Its Field: Tesla Takes on Threshing on Irish Farm

The 19th century met the 21st at the 46th Annual Steam Threshing festival in Clonbullogue, a village in Ireland, on Sunday, August 25, when a vintage threshing machine was hitched to a Tesla with surprisingly effective results.

This video, taken by John Harrison, shows that the Tesla had no difficulty hauling the old machine across the field, with it fully operational behind.

“A hundred years in the difference man, put the boot to the floor,” says Harrison in the video.

Scottish engineer Andrew Meikle is credited with inventing the threshing machine in the late 18th century. It was a key development in the British Agricultural Revolution. Horse-drawn machines, such as the one in this video, as well as steam-powered versions, entered into widespread use during the 19th century. Today, the threshing process is most often carried out by combine harvesters, which combine all processes required to harvest grain crops into one machine. Credit: John Harrison via Storyful
