U.S. Secretary of State arrives in South Korea

Blinken is visiting Japan and South Korea along with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin in a bid to fortify Washington's alliances in Asia, in a first overseas trip by top level members of President Joe Biden's administration.

Blinken is expected to meet South Korean Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong later in the day to discuss bilateral issues and regional cooperation, according to Seoul's Foreign Ministry.

Following the meetings with South Korean counterparts, Blinken and Austin on Thursday (March 18) are scheduled to hold further talks on global cooperation and alliance between the two countries, the ministry added.
